“Money is a Motivator… however in a slightly strange way”

“Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us” is a title of a video-clip that I found on youtube. It is from RSAnimate and some of you may know their work. The clip animates a speech from Dan Pink addressing the question of if and to what extent money motivates people. Money as motivating factor always comes up during my classes on motivation. What the author of this clip proposes is that motivation is connected to autonomy, mastery and purpose rather than the offer of a bonus. This video, I believe, could provide the point of departure for a discussion on how to establish opportunities of being autonomous, developing mastery, and seeing a purpose in what one does at work.
